Do you snore or struggle with insomnia? Do you find yourself extra sleepy during the day or not feeling rested after a full night of sleep? Do you have restless legs or wake up with a headache?

According to Dr. Saim Choudhry, a board-certified sleep medicine and internal medicine physician with years of experience, located in Woodhaven, these are all problems that often go overlooked but should be addressed by a sleep doctor.

“There aren’t many sleep doctors in this region, and that’s a gap in care that needs addressing. I am dedicated to bringing specialized sleep care to the residents of Woodhaven and surrounding areas," Dr. Choudhry said.

He explained that many people experience symptoms like snoring and gasping for air during sleep without realizing they may indicate a serious disorder, such as sleep apnea.

“Patients should be aware that sleep disorders can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as high blood pressure, strokes, arrhythmias, heart failure, and heart attacks, by two to three times," Dr. Choudhry said.

In November 2023, Dr. Choudhry proudly opened the doors to his brand-new clinic, Haven Health Care Medical Group, located at 18600 Van Horn Road, Suite A. The clinic specializes in primary care, sleep medicine, and also includes cosmetic services like Botox with more plans for aesthetics in the future.

With sleep medicine as his focus, Dr. Choudhry makes it his mission to get to the bottom of patients’ symptoms and treat them according to their specific needs.

“I give patients a comprehensive sleep visit, where we discuss every single part of their sleep. Many of my patients often share how our thorough and individualized approach has not just improved their sleep, but also significantly enhanced their overall well-being," he shared.

Dr. Choudhry treats narcolepsy, sleep apnea, parasomnias, insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, restless leg syndrome, and more.

Sleep apnea, one of the most common sleep disorders Dr. Choudhry treats, is a serious condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. Risk factors include being overweight, older age, or having a large neck or narrow airway, but not all of these need to be present to develop sleep apnea.

“With sleep apnea, you’re not getting the oxygen you need,” Dr. Choudhry said. “It leads to non-restful sleep and affects many aspects of your health.”

To provide the best possible results for each patient, Dr. Choudhry prescribes a range of therapies, including CPAP and Inspire therapy, and works closely with dentists to offer customized oral appliances.

In addition to sleep medicine, Dr. Choudhry is a primary care physician specializing in internal medicine. He provides patients with comprehensive wellness exams, physicals, and diagnoses and treatments tailored to their specific needs.

Whether it’s sleep medicine or primary care, Dr. Choudhry is determined to provide a personalized care plan to each and every patient.

“I advocate for each patient the best I can so that they have the best chance of getting the best care possible,” he said. “They’re not just a number to me – they’re more of a family.”

Patients won’t receive one-size-fits-all care at Haven Health Care Medical Group. They accept most major insurance plans and strive to make their services accessible to everyone in the community.
