The Stevenson men’s hockey team is one of the best Division 2 teams in the state and has a real shot at winning a state title in 2025. One of the reasons is great players and another reason is strong leadership – senior Owen Hall is both of those.

“Owen is a big reason for the team’s success and he is also being considered for the prestigious "Mr. Hockey" Award,” said Livonia Stevenson Athletic Director Arnold Muscat. “Owen is the epitome of a leader. He leads by example and no one will out-work him, but he is equally focused on the entire team getting better.”

Muscat said Hall, a winger, “represents all that we want out of a Stevenson student-athlete.”

Hall, who skates to a 3.8 GPA in the classroom, is the son of Danielle and Tim Hall. He said his family was how and why he started playing hockey.

“Hockey has been in my family even before I was born,” he said. “So growing up it would always be on TV and I was always attending my brother's games. I eventually would start at the age of three, when I had fallen in love with the game, and haven't looked back since.”

Hockey brings out the best in Hall.

"I like the competitive aspect and the way you are pushed every day into your best effort,” he said. “I also enjoy the brotherhood that I have gained and how close you get with your teammates, and even coaches.”

And that “brotherhood” has never been stronger than this year. The Spartans entered the season with high expectations and lofty goals, and a strong start has the team headed in the right direction.

“This season is different from previous seasons because everyone from last year is back this year,” he said. “So we know what we need to bring every day and the thought of not going deep into the playoffs would be a major failure. We have been dreaming of making it back to USA Hockey Arena to play in the semifinals and also the state championship game. We are taking it one game at a time, bringing our best and making it hard for other teams to beat us.”

Stevenson played in Division 1 last year and reached the state quarterfinals before losing to Brighton.

Hall,18, was proud to be named the team’s captain this season.

Hall made the varsity team as a freshman and was named all-state honorable mention as a sophomore despite missing half the season with a broken wrist. He was named first team all-state last year as a junior.

“My teammates are like brothers to me and we all get along and have made some of the greatest memories I will keep for the rest of my life,” he said. “I know and they know that we can count on one another to be there at times of need. I love all those guys like their family.”

Hall plans on continuing his hockey career after high school.

“I am planning on playing junior hockey with goals of reaching the college level,” he said. “Afterward, I will be studying to take on the career of a firefighter/paramedic, just as my older brother did.”
