Belleville High School is excited to announce the addition of four comprehensive beauty programs to its curriculum! Each program allows students to earn hours towards obtaining a license in Cosmetology, Esthetics (skincare), Manicure, or Natural Hair.
The Cosmetology program
This is a program that requires dedication to complete 1,500 clock hours of training but the rewards are limitless. Students will embark on a transformative journey in the art and science of beauty.
This two- to three-year program is designed to equip students with diverse skills. The program covers everything from the art and science of enhancing hair, skin and nails, to applying makeup and lash techniques. This curriculum covers various hair-styling techniques, such as shampooing, conditioning, cutting, coloring and chemical treatments.
They will also learn about skin care products, cleansing methods and hair removal techniques.
Students will be instructed on applying makeup to conceal imperfections or achieve specific desired looks, along with lessons on lash application. Upon completing our cosmetology program, your student will be eligible to take the state cosmetology examination for licensing and open the door to a world of career opportunities in the beauty industry.

The Nail Technician program
The Nail Technician program is a comprehensive and engaging one-year educational experience. Learn techniques like basic manicures, pedicures, nail tips, sculpted nails using acrylic or gel, and creating beautiful nail art designs.
In addition to technical skills, our program provides business education, training in licensing laws and rules, professional ethics, and salon management.
This program requires 600 hours of training. Upon completion, your student can take the state manicuring examination for licensing, provided they meet the age requirement of 17 years.
After receiving their license, they can work in one of Michigan's established beauty or nail salons. This is a steppingstone to a career and an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Join us and take the first step toward a successful career in nail technology!
The Skincare program (Esthetics)
A certified two-year course, the Skincare program (Esthetics), offers comprehensive skincare art and science instruction. Throughout the program, students will receive thorough training in a wide range of practical skills, including but not limited to sanitation practices, detailed study of human anatomy and skin disorders, makeup artistry and principles, facial and skin care techniques, safety protocols, chemistry as it relates to skincare products and temporary hair removal methods.
Additionally, the program provides comprehensive training in makeup application and lash enhancement techniques.
Upon completing the program, students can take the state esthetician's exam for licensing, provided they meet the age requirement of 17 years. This licensure will enable graduates to pursue rewarding careers in skincare establishments or salons in Michigan.
The program requires 750 clock hours of training, a crucial step toward obtaining the necessary skills and knowledge for success in the exam and the industry. Graduates will emerge well-prepared to educate clients on proper skin care practices and confidently recommend products that suit individual needs.
The Natural Hair Culturist program
The Natural Hair Culturist program is an extensive and thorough course certified by the State of Michigan Licensing and Regulation Agency. This program delves into various important topics to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills.
These include an in-depth study of hair anatomy, covering the structure and various hair types, and the importance of scalp health. Furthermore, the program provides detailed training in styling techniques such as braiding, twisting, wrapping, weaving, locking, and hair extensions.
In addition, students gain a deep understanding of product knowledge, including the properties of hair and scalp and the chemicals commonly found in hair products.
The program also emphasizes personalized care, teaching students to create customized routines for different hair textures and empowering them to provide professional advice to clients.
The program is structured into segments and covers all aspects of natural hair cultivation, theory and skill training. Students can take the SOM Natural Hair Culturist examination for licensing upon completing the program, provided they are at least 17 years old.
This comprehensive program requires 400 clock hours of training, spanning one academic year, ensuring that students receive thorough and detailed instruction in natural hair care and cultivation.
In the upcoming year, students enrolled in the program will be able to gain hands-on experience by offering their services to members of the local community. Since this is an educational program, the service fees will be kept at a nominal rate.
