CMAC Transportation, a family and veteran-owned transportation, logistics and warehousing provider, is on the road to expansion with the announcement of the new Taylor Distribution Center (TDC), located on a sprawling 44.29-acre industrial park in Wayne County that will feature a state-of-the-art warehouse facility with over 300,000 square feet.
Dave and Scott Christie started CMAC trucks in 2001 with eight trucks and 15 drivers at a small building in Taylor. The company soon moved to Brownstown and expanded and diversified the business, which has grown to a fleet of 125 trucks, 450 trailers and approximately 180 drivers. The company also employs other staff and workers, including over 100 fork-lift drivers who work three shifts out of the Brownstown location.
With approximately 700,000 square feet of existing warehouse space in multiple locations, the new Taylor facility will take CMAC over the 1 million mark in warehouse square feet. And they are open for business.
“We have immediate availability,” said Mark Jarian, who has worked for CMAC for more than a decade and is currently vice president of sales for CMAC. “Warehouse space is always fluctuating but it’s important for people to know that we do have space right now to accommodate most requests.”
And that availability is only going to increase in the future with the addition of the new facility in Taylor, which they plan to break ground on by early next year.
“The new facility will have a little more than 300,000 square feet but can go a little higher if we need to in the future,” said Stephen Tripp, CMAC’s director of sales. “We see the need here to expand in the supply chain and logistics area. Things are going well and we’ve had a good year and see a good opportunity to expand and grow.”
While the new facility is still more than a year away from completion, customers have already begun lining up for a spot in Taylor.
“We have some customers and vendors already interested in that location so we are trying to structure things to fit their needs and even build some areas to spec to best accommodate their needs,” Tripp said.
Like their other two locations, the Taylor Distribution Center will feature state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and technology in a warehouse catering to both automotive and non-automotive storage needs. Their current facilities feature approximately 700,000 square feet with more than 75 dock doors and 32-foot ceilings. The CMAC Warehouse Management System includes real-time tracking, portal access and live visibility with 24-hour security cameras.
The new Taylor buildings will be state-of-the-art design offering all the features and amenities required by today’s sophisticated warehouse/ distribution and manufacturing companies globally. Features will include high-dock ratios, ESFR fire suppression, efficient LED lighting, ample parking and trailer staging. Tax abatements and incentives are available for qualified manufacturers and logistic companies.
Company founder Dave Christie, along with his son Scott Christie and daughter Heather Depaul, have always believed in helping and assisting veterans, being a good neighbor and helping support their community.
Scott Christie said one of the core values at CMAC has always been the commitment to giving back to the community and helping to support our military.
“My dad is a Viet Nam veteran so we do a lot for our veterans,” he said. “We do everything from hiring to job placement to helping veterans in any way we can start a small business. We are really committed to helping veterans because that’s who we are and what we are all about.”
