Southgate's Market in the Park brings together residents and businesses in a way that is fun and beneficial to all.
The event, in addition to featuring local vendors, also includes food trucks, live music, yard games, a full bar and splash pad.
Two of the vendors, Daydream Pastry LLC and Shug’s Hugs, recently shared their experiences with the market.
Celena Burkhart, of Shug’s Hugs, had this to say:
“Markets and concerts in the park are a great place to find some very talented and friendly people,” she said. “Every Tuesday, there's a different band and vendors of all kinds.”
Shug’s Hugs makes and sells crochet, quilts and other handmade items.
“Everyone should come enjoy the music, stroll through the market, find a treasure or two, and maybe embrace their inner child with a splash in the water,” Burkhart added.
Melissa Koluder, owner and pastry chef at Daydream Pastry LLC, is participating in the market for the first time this year.
“Our experience has been positive thus far,” she said. “The first event was super-hot, however it was so great. I look forward to the rest of the season. I believe it’s a great way to test the waters on whether to go full force on starting a business.”
Daydream Pastry LLC sells a variety of pastries, with a specialty in custom sugar cookies, five-ounce homestyle cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pies and artisan breads.
“This opportunity gives small businesses such as me, coming straight out of culinary school, to see what people are interested in purchasing,” Koluder said.
