While the popular and successful Greek Islands Eatery occupied the prestigious corner of Penniman Avenue and Main Street in downtown Plymouth for 12 years, owner Stefan Stefanakis couldn’t help but imagine something “bigger” in that space. And now he’s more than imagining it – he’s opening it – and it will be bigger in every way, featuring a menu and experience that is unique, exciting and special.

The cornerstone location, 306 S. Main Street, in the former First National Bank building, is now home to The Ledger, an upscale dining and cocktail establishment with a high-end feel and menu to match. The restaurant is scheduled to open before the end of the year.

“The restaurant industry is always changing and Greek Islands has always been successful, but it’s always been in the back of my mind to do a flip on Greek Islands,” Stefanakis said. “I wanted to create something more special, more upscale and higher end and more eclectic for this incredible space and location. I thought this space deserved to be something more than a diner or even a bar and grill. This corner deserves something special.”

And The Ledger will certainly be special.

“I’ve always enjoyed craft cocktails and the higher end and more eclectic menu,” Stefanakis said. “I want to bring a big-city restaurant experience to the beautiful small town of Plymouth. I want people to walk through the streets of this charming small town and step into our restaurant and feel like you just walked into a restaurant in New York City.”

The Ebenezer Cocktail Lounge, downtown Plymouth’s first and only speakeasy, remains in the basement of the former bank building. The lounge’s moniker comes from Ebenezer J. Penniman, the first to be appointed president of the bank in 1871, and encompasses over 4,000 square feet with a capacity of 127 serving craft cocktails, wine, craft beer and a small menu of shareable plates.

The eclectic menu will include steaks, Whole Branzino, duck wings, Wagyu beef, octopus, along with what Stefanakis calls a variety of unique and exciting sides.

“We will be using a lot of locally sourced farms for the best and freshest quality,” he said. “And our staff is going to be educated on the menu and bring a high standard of service to our guests, which I think has been lacking recently in the restaurant business.”

The Ledger’s executive chef is Greg Alexiev, who previously was a chef at Five Steakhouse Saint John’s.

“We went through a huge interview process to find the right chef,” Stefanakis said. “We interviewed over 20 people, and we are excited to have Greg in the kitchen. He’s exactly what we were looking for in an executive chef.”

The bar will offer craft cocktails and house-made syrups and seasonal drink menus. The beverage director is James Walkup.

“One thing I love about Plymouth is that it offers something for everyone, especially when it comes to food,” Stefanakis said. “And we think The Ledger brings a more upscale, higher-end restaurant in a beautiful space to the area.”

The Ledger will be open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday (closed on Mondays). They also will offer a special tasting room that seats around 10 guests and features a rotating fixed menu.
