Nicole's TLC Cleaning Service sets itself apart from others by using 100 percent non-toxic products, and providing a vigorous training program for employees who are bonded and insured.

“It’s safe for the environment when it goes down the drain,” said owner Nicole Bernath. “It benefits our homeowners, their pets and our cleaning techs who aren’t breathing fumes. We do background checks and provide liability and worker’s comp insurance. They’re bonded for the clients’ safety and ours. We want them to not only clean good, but give assurance to clients to help build trust.”

Consistency counts

Most of the clients are homeowners who are scheduled for weekly, bi-weekly or monthly cleanings. TLC Cleaning crews also take on a small number of offices. To maintain a good workflow, one cleaner is assigned to each client in Plymouth and surrounding western Wayne County communities. Bernath stands by a 100-percent satisfaction guarantee if the client calls about a concern within 24 hours of the cleaning.

Expectations are set while a salesperson does an initial virtual assessment on Facetime or Zoom to determine rates, which is based on size and need. The techs are then sent out to each client with a customized checklist of what needs to be cleaned.

“What sets us apart is that we hire for character, and we professionally train our employees to follow a certain cleaning system that is fast but very efficient and detailed,” Bernath said.

Building business

She has been in the cleaning business since 1996, starting out independently working on homes and offices. A decade ago she began hiring cleaning techs and is now up to 18. Nicole’s TLC Cleaning has roughly 350 recurring clients and hundreds of deep clean customers annually.

“We’re growing and looking to hire more to add to our team,” she said.

Two technicians are sent on deep-cleaning projects that are often done when clients are either moving in or out of a home. Pricing is dependent on the size, clients’ lifestyles and cleaning frequency. Recurring clients have set rates depending on the conditions of the home.

“We always send a team leader for deep cleans to ensure satisfaction,” Bernath said. “A field supervisor goes out to the homes to inspect the work randomly to make sure everyone is following our cleaning system and the quality is there. We want to make sure they’re doing a good job.”

Stressing that her employees are trustworthy, dependable and professional, Bernath also said her costs are affordable based on competitive pricing for dusting, vacuuming and floor washing, as well as kitchen and bathroom cleaning. Techs don’t wash dishes, do laundry or provide other maid services.

Going above, beyond

Additionally, TLC Cleaning partners with Cleaning for a Reason, a nonprofit organization providing two free house cleaning services to anyone undergoing cancer treatment. Cancer patients must register with Cleaning for a Reason at cleaningforareason.org.
