Creating a Place That Makes People Smile

What makes the Plymouth community such a special place? It is more of a feeling than being something specific. There are just so many ways Plymouth can make you smile. At the Plymouth Community Chamber of Commerce, it is our privilege to tell our story and make it come to life.

To do that, we play many roles in the community:

Promoters

Promoting activities, events, the community, and businesses is a big part of our work. With a popular Facebook page that reaches 33,000 people, it is our number-one promotional tool. There are many other tools we use to promote our image through social media and publications like Plymouth Today. Just a simple picture of Plymouth with a short caption can elicit hundreds of likes and reach tens of thousands of people. Our Facebook page is Plymouth/Plymouth Township, Michigan.

Connectors

While we connect people to what is happening in Plymouth, we also are the best source of connecting businesses to consumers and other companies. First and foremost, we are a business association primarily funded by dues from members and sponsorships.

My favorite example of connecting businesses to consumers is our gift card program. We have over 150 member businesses that will accept Plymouth Community Gift Cards that we sell from our office or website. They are popular gifts for teachers, coaches, coworkers, and birthdays. Last year, we sold over $187,000 in gift cards that go back into supporting our local businesses.

We also host events every month to provide businesses with the opportunity to network. From small roundtable discussions to after-hours events to significant events with hundreds of people, we are the place where businesses meet.

Event Planners

We are proud to host many community events like the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, Pumpkin Palooza, the Walk of Trees (Christmas Trees in Kellogg Park, Scarecrows in the Park, and Spring Fever (also in Kellogg Park).

Just wrapping up our second year, Spring Fever is our newest way of dressing up Kellogg Park to attract people to enjoy Plymouth. Spring Fever in April each year provides a splash of color before most flowers bloom or the trees leaf out. What is heartwarming to see is all the young families that come to Plymouth to take pictures and interact with the displays that our members put up along Main Street and Ann Arbor Trail. The displays are picture-magnets for families and friends who post them all over social media and tag Plymouth.

Informers

Your Chamber of Commerce is a fountain of knowledge about the Plymouth community. We receive calls every day asking for business referrals, details about events and general information on the community. Additionally, our website is full of information about the community and upcoming events, plus it has an online directory of all our members. Each member company has its own page on our website.

Leaders and Advocates

The Plymouth Community Chamber of Commerce is the leading business organization in our community, with 680 members. Business creates tremendous value in the community for employment, entertainment and providing the goods and services we need every day. Our Chamber works with elected leaders at all levels of government to ensure we create a business climate that is prospering and attractive.

Supporters and Partners

Plymouth is a community of partnerships. From the township and the city working together to the service clubs and nonprofits that work together for the betterment of this area. The Chamber partners with many entities throughout the area to do our part to make the Plymouth Community successful and welcoming. For example, we worked with the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs this year to raise additional funds and new volunteers to support a bigger 4th of July parade.

For years, we have used the marketing slogan “Plymouth Rocks” because it represents the vibrancy of our community. The Chamber of Commerce is a reflection of our community. An active business organization that is engaged in creating a place that makes people smile.
